Join us as we say farewell to Hops Infusion and welcome Last Chance, Blasphemy release news and more Visitors Center changes!

SPECIAL EVENT! Hops Infusion Retirement and Last Chance IPA Debut
Come down to the brewery on Friday, May 25th between 4:30 pm and 8 pm to get your absolute first shot at sampling Weyerbacher’s newest brew! Last Chance IPA is a west coast-style, full-flavored hop assault delightfully lacking in balance. A combination of Centennial, Cascade, Simcoe and Columbus hops are used to produce pungent aromas of grapefruit, pine and citrus. Last Chance IPA weighs in at 5.9% ABV and 62 IBUs.

Why call it “Last Chance?” The name “Last Chance” is a nod to something held very close to the hearts of many of the employees at Weyerbacher Brewing Company – Animal Rescue. Weyerbacher will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of every drop of Last Chance IPA to small, regional animal rescue operations. These shelters offer dogs, cats and other pets a second chance at finding their family; for some animals, these organizations are their last chance. Have a beer and help make a difference for homeless animals!

Last Chance will take the place of our long-running IPA, Hops Infusion (born 6.18.1998), which will be officially retired during this special event. Dress in black to mourn the passing of our old friend (veils optional though encouraged, tissues provided). Have a photo of you in your Hops Infusion shirt or enjoying a Hops Infusion? Bring it along as we celebrate the great times had while enjoying Hops Infusion. We’ll post it on our wall of memories on display in the Visitors Center!

We’ll also have all of our in-season beers available for sale in bottles, kegs and growlers.

Note: Last Chance IPA 12 oz. bottles will not be produced until later in the summer, but kegs and growlers are available now!

BONUS! We will be releasing this year’s highly anticipated batch of Blasphemy, our QUAD aged in used oak bourbon barrels and then bottle conditioned in a 25.4 oz./750ml bottle finished with a cork and a cage. More about Blasphemy below…

Blasphemous Rumors
“When they first suggested we age our QUAD in bourbon barrels, I said, ‘THAT’S BLASPHEMY!’….and so it is!” – Dan Weyerbacher

Blasphemy first debuted as a 12 oz. bourbon barrel-aged version of our QUAD. After running for a few years, Blasphemy went on hiatus for a few seasons. Last year, we dusted off the recipe and decided to make it available bottle-conditioned in 25.4 oz./750ml cork-n-cage bottles.

The 2011 change proved to be amazing! There was, however, a small problem. Two of the five batches didn’t bottle condition properly and were unfit for sale. It was truly a tragedy. The worst part is that our local wholesalers were the ones slated to get the latter batches and, unfortunately, got none.

Well, we have good news for you! By the time you read this, Blasphemy 2012 (debuting 5.25.2012) will have just begun shipping to wholesalers. You should be able to find it on the shelves of your favorite beer store by mid-June!

Check out Blasphemy being bottled!

More Visitors Center Changes!
When last we wrote, we had just added Friday nights to our existing Saturday hours for our tours and tastings. We also told you about the new layout and additional room for folks who are visiting. The one thing we didn’t get to tell you about (only because we weren’t ready to implement it just yet) is… Weyerbacher is no longer required to sell full cases! You read that correctly! You can now buy a single 12 oz. or 25.4 oz./750ml bottle (if that’s all you need)! We offer a discount if you buy 24 or more bottles (let’s call that a “case”), but you can mix and match any size bottle! Friday evenings are still far quieter than Saturdays and a great option for local folks who just need to swing by and grab some beer for the weekend.

Hey everyone! Our PA rep Bobby Clark was a guest of the “Friday Beer Buzz” segment on newsradio WILK. Here’s a little scoop on our upcoming sour beer release… The working title for this beer is “Sour Black”. As mentioned in the video of the radio show, please feel free to send us your suggestion for the name of this beer. It’s a Pinot Noir barrel-aged American Wild Ale which is very dark in color. It’s the beer that has occupied the barrels which gave birth to last year’s sour sensation “Rapture”. Cheers!

The brewery is open Friday from 4:30 to 7:00pm and Saturday 12 noon to 3:30pm! FRIDAYS ARE FAR QUIETER THAN SATURDAYS. Our tours are free and are held at roughly 6:00pm on Friday (conditions permitting) and 12:30, 1:15 and 2:15 on Saturday. Tours are approximately 30 to 40 minutes in duration. If you intend to take a tour and purchase beer, consider arriving earlier and taking one of the two earlier tours as the bar area can get quite crowded when the last tour is concluded. No reservations are required however if you plan to come in a larger group, please give us a heads-up several days in advance by clicking here. Bus tours REQUIRE advance notice and reservation confirmation!

As the last kegs and cases of Hops Infusion ship out, we’re excited to reveal the name of the replacement for our beloved IPA! But first, the back story.

The IPA project was a series of six new hoppy beer recipes released over the summer of 2011. The beer was available draft-only at selected restaurants and bars and a the release of each included a public voting component. The test-batch beers had unrelated and meaningless names: Batch #3743, Marcia, North, Steel, Crimson and Diamond. We decided that west coast-style IPA Crimson was the best of the new brews as it delighted even the most faithful of Hops Infusion fans.

Weyerbacher “Last Chance IPA” is a full-flavored hop assault delightfully lacking in balance. A combination of Centennial, Cascade, Simcoe and Columbus hops are used to produce pungent aromas of grapefruit, pine and citrus. Last Chance weighs-in at 5.9% ABV and 62 IBUs. Nice!

Now… for the name. Why “Last Chance?” Is this the last chance the brewers were given to make an IPA? INCORRECT. Is this the last chance for Dan Weirback to have any influence over any of our label artwork? (while that’s a GREAT idea…) NOPE!

The name “Last Chance” is a nod to something held very close to the hearts of many of the employees at Weyerbacher Brewing Company: Animal Rescue. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each bottle or keg of Last Chance will be donated to an animal rescue organization. Individual employees of Weyerbacher Brewing Company will select a rescue organization close to their hearts for each month.

We’ll announce the debut festivities and post an image of the label shortly. Stay tuned!

Cheers!
