Weyerbacher Merry Monks’ Takes Honors Again!

Today’s Philadelphia Inquirer (June 2, 2011) has 2, yes 2 Weyerbacher Beers getting top 5 honors out of 38 regional beers tasted.   The blind tasting was conducted by Inquirer Restaurant Critic Craig LaBan with a panel of 8 tasters including food critics, wine and beer writers, brewers and beer geeks alike.  Beers were divided into two categories: classic beers and new beers.

Weyerbacher Merry Monks’ place number 3 in classic beers showing “…a mastery of  Belgian style brewing”.  LaBan added its “…at once creamy, pruney sweet, and potent, stoking big boozy lusciousness”.

Weyerbacher Blasphemy placed number 5 in the new beers category.  This Belgian-style Quadruppel aged in bourbon barrels, was just brought back by the brewery after a 3 year hiatus, due to intense lobbying by beer fans.  Available right now, for a limited time in 750ml Cork n Cage bottles.

TEAM PEGGY! Peggy WINS at SlyFox Bock Fest 2011!

Phoenixville, PA ▬ Peggy wins at Sly Fox!

May 1st, 2011 saw an awesome amount of news certainly not the least of which is the fact that  a 3-legged goat sponsored by Weyerbacher won the Sly Fox Bock Fest!

Peggy, the beloved 16 month old ruminant, was rescued by Weyerbacher brewer Colin Presby who has trained her to be the fastest goat known to beer fans — regardless of her physical handicap.  Peggy instantly won the sympathy vote with all who saw her and could still count to four.   Her fans donned bright green TEAM PEGGY T-shirts and chanted “PEGGY! PEGGY! PEGGY!” which could be heard all over Pennsylvania.  The team’s run of forty shirts were sold-out almost immediately – three were held ’till the end and were auctioned off for a total of $201.  All proceeds from the sale of the shirts will be donated to the Berks County Humane Society.

Peggy’s own website or facebook page will be online within a few days and will be a source of encouragement for handicapped goats the world over.  More shirts are being printed which will be offered for sale; the proceeds will continue to fund Berks County Humane Society.

In the coming days we’ll post a link to Peggy’s page.  In the meantime, you can check out Jack Curtain’s article here and visit the Weyerbacher facebook page to view all the pics and video which we’ll be uploading as they come in.  Sign up here to get Weyerbacher’s almost monthly newsletter and be in-the-know at all times!

Do you have any great pictures of the event?  PLEASE email them to bill@weyerbacher.com and we’ll get them uploaded and give you all the credit!

GO TEAM PEGGY!

Cheers!

Weyerbacher Zotten—Big News

Press Release:
February 18, 2010

Weyerbacher Brewing Company, Inc., a small artisanal brewery from Easton, Pennsylvania, has ceased production of its beer “Zotten” due to prior rights and US trademark of “Brugse Zot”, a beer produced and commercialized by De Halve Maan, a brewery located in Bruges, Belgium.

We take this opportunity also to announce a recall of any and all Weyerbacher “Zotten” beer to the brewery within the next 30 days, for full refund from Weyerbacher.

Weyerbacher was unaware of the US trademark of De Halve Maan and had no intention to infringe on the rights of De Halve Maan.  We are particularly respectful of the part of small Belgian breweries in the world beer scene and hereby officially apologize to the family owners of De Halve Maan.

Daniel A. Weirback, President
Weyerbacher Brewing Company, Inc.

As part of our settlemet with De Halve Maan, we’re required to post the above press release, which was edited and approved by De Halve Maan, in numerous places.
Our plan is to re-release the beer under a new name in May of this year.  The new name will have no connection whatsoever to fools,  jester or any imagery like that.  We have a name in mind, but are checking very carefully (for obvious reasons) to see that its OK to use.  We should know within 2 weeks and will announce it then.
