The 25th installment – that’d be 2nd to LAST – in the Brewers’ Select Series is Yankee!  No, this is not about baseball!  For those of you just tuning in, the Brewer’s Select Series follows the NATO alphabet: Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, etc.  Yankee is the letter “Y”.

Yankee is an “Old Ale” and as such is expected to cellar quite nicely.   Described by some as a ‘baby barleywine’, this beer is an Old Ale, 8.4% ABV with 51 IBU. Yankee is a full-bodied, mahogany ale with an intense malt aroma and flavor.  You’ll find caramel, bread and fruit, with a touch of spice and smoke with a warm vinous finish.  English East Kent Golding hops balance out this malty treasure!

Happy Holidays!

As with all Brewers’ Select releases, Yankee was bottled in a very small run and will not be made again.  Look for Yankee on draft at select finer restaurants and pubs and in bottles exclusively at the Weyerbacher Visitors Center!

Note: Yankee will debut on Black Friday at the Visitors Center.  Note:  the Visitors Center will be open at NOON on Black Friday (November 23rd) and close at the regular 7:00pm.  See you there!  Click here to read about the debut!

This past weekend I introduced a bunch of ’30-somethings’ in Northern Virginia to the Yankee Ale. My son hosted a beer swap with his friends and we included the Yankee in the tasting with 20 other micro-brews. Not surprising to me, the Weyerbacher brew was one of the favorites for many of those in attendance, being favored over beers from Sierra Nevada, Troegs, Founders and Bells. The only disappointment was that Yankee is not available outside of a few restaurants and at the brewery. Thanks for the excellent brew…maybe you should consider adding this one to your regular line-up!
