Weyerbacher

Last Chance IPA

Weyerbacher’s new Last Chance IPA is a west coast-style full-flavored hop assault delightfully lacking in balance.  We’ve added a combination of Centennial, Cascade, Simcoe and Columbus hops are used to produce pungent aromas of grapefruit, pine and citrus.  Last Chance IPA weighs-in at  5.9% ABV and 62 IBUs.

Now…   for the name. Why “Last Chance?” The name “Last Chance” is a nod to something held very close to the hearts of many of the employees at Weyerbacher Brewing Company:  Animal Rescue.  Weyerbacher donates a portion of the proceeds from the sale of every drop of Last Chance IPA to small, regional animal rescue operations.  These shelters offer dogs, cats and other pets their last chance to find a new home.

Have a glass, make a difference!  Cheers!

Last Chance IPA debuted 5/25/12 on draft only, was officially released into the market in time with Philly Beer Week 2012 and will be available in 12 oz. bottles in an expanding radius from the brewery throughout the summer of 2012. Last Chance IPA replaces Hops Infusion IPA, retired in 2012.

Hoping I’ll be able to get a sixtel of this here in MD. As an owner of a rescue dog I’m a big fan of this already. Any plans on putting the logo on swag (esp. tap handles or tin tackers) too?

    • bbragg Bill Bragg says:

We did T-shirts for the release, I am sure they will be available on our website soon. The tin tacker thing will come one day, but 1st we’re focusing on the beer, boxes and four/six packs. You will see new merch at some point and we’ll probably do a newsletter when it arrives – are you on our mailing list yet?

  3. This is my new favorite beer you guys make. I highly suggest six packs just like you guys do with some of your other beers.

Finally! A great IPA from Weyerbacher. I honestly thought you called it Last Chance because you guys were struggling with brewing a great IPA. Double Simcoe is decent, but I always thought Hops Infusion and the others were awful. I hope my brutal honesty is well received because I wanted to emphasize how much I believe in this IPA. If I had any criticism on it, I would say to perfect your water profile. The sulfates seem a little high. And did you guys use acid malt here? I get a slight tart taste that I don’t particularly enjoy. Overall though, this is an amazing West Coast IPA and I encourage you to keep it in rotation. It’s citrusy, tropical, herbal, and complex with a pretty good aroma!! Cheers Dan and company :)

    • bbragg Bill Bragg says:

Well, that is an eventful review! Thanks! (I think!) I’ll check with Chris regarding your specific flavor questions…

  11. Stacy Stacy says:

can we nominate an animal shelter to be included in this?

    • bbragg Bill Bragg says:

Anyone is free to make suggestions however we will make the decisions on our own, so to speak. If you have information on a specific place, please mail it to Weyerbacher at 905 Line Street, Suite G, Easton, PA 18042 attention Austin Matlee. We have a bulletin board on which we will display any and all shelter information for our employees to choose from when it is their turn to decide where the $ goes. Most of our employees already have places in mind based upon their own personal per ownership and volunteer experiences but sending more information is great for those that don’t already have a place in mind. Cheers!

    • bbragg Bill Bragg says:

Consider, sure! If they send us information, we’ll post it in the employee cafeteria area so that they can review their options if they do not have a shelter with which they are already close. We’re not “accepting” any other form of “lobbying”, we’re simply going with what works for us. Print material is the one way in! Cheers, Kev!

  27. James James says:

really good session IPA, I do miss hops infusion tho. But at least there’s still double simcoe! May I suggest adding a full-flavored IPA, maybe a different recipe from the the infusion, I actually found a store with one 6 pack of the infusion, wont be fresh but hey its the last well drops of infusion ever!

    • bbragg Bill Bragg says:

Hi James! Out of curiosity, how much more ‘full-flavored’ would you suggest we make an IPA as it relates to Last Chance IPA? Last Chance IPA is way more bitter and floral than Hops Infusion was and it’s so close in ABV that it isn’t worth mentioning. I’m asking because I am a Hops Infusion IPA fan, too and am REALLY pleased with LCIPA as a replacement. So, can you give me some more detail so I can pass it along to the brewers for ya?

  28. James James says:

Don’t get me wrong, lcipa is a really good session ipa, its on the level of df 60 min. I would agree it is more bitter and floral, but I think it lacks a bit in the malt backing. I would step up the malt a bit and up the ibus to balance it out. Just saying, its a big jump from the Lcipa to the double simcoe. I think there needs to be an inbetween ipa.

love not to over powering.just the right amount of hoppyness..

  30. Chris J. Chris J. says:

Last Chance, last night, was selected by unanimous vote (my wife and I) as our new family “house beer.” This is no small honor as it replaces Dogfish Head’s 60-minute IPA, which has held this title since 2010. Admittedly, Last Chance had two things working in its favor A) We’re both Lafayette grads and still have a fondness for Easton and B) A white shelter cat with two different colored eyes lives in our house. However, we are beer fundamentalists, and we would not let such biases cloud our judgment. This stuff is delicious, and you deserve this honor. Well done, sirs, well done!

    • bbragg Bill Bragg says:

I’m totally putting that on our facebook page. Cheers, Chris!
We just got dog collars in! They’re a little big for your cat… :^)

While I have you … The first and only time we’ve been to the brewery was back in 1996 when you were still on 6th Street. I remember having a beer, whose name hasn’t escaped me, called “Dave’s Dry Irish Stout.” It was wonderful. Do you still make anything like that? Does Dave still work there?

  32. Todd Simpson Todd Simpson says:

Not only did you folks brew a fantastic IPA you also are doing something great for the communities around you. I will keep on drinking Last Chance and supporting Weyerbacher for both of those reasons! Keep up the good work! And I will keep on telling people about your brewery and your cause.

Good on ya, Weyerbacher, for helping out animal shelters! I’ve been buying this beer and your Double Simcoe after I discovered them both a few months ago, and while both have proven to be very tasty brews, it was the cause you are supporting that got me to pop that first 6′er of Last Chance in my cart.
