Weyerbacher Wins Medal in International Beer Competition

Easton, PA • April 19,2010   The Weyerbacher  Brewing Company recently claimed a bronze medal in the Brewers Association (BA) World Beer Cup® 2010, a global beer competition that evaluates beers from around the world and recognizes the most outstanding beers being produced in the world today.

Gold, silver and bronze medals in the competition’s 90 beer-style categories were awarded April 10, 2010 during the World Beer Cup Gala Awards Dinner at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers in Chicago, Ill., U.S.A.

Weyerbacher was awarded a bronze in the Belgian-style Tripel beer category for its Merry Monks’ Ale, a Belgian-style golden ale, bottle conditioned with a unique, almost fruity flavor profile. Weyerbacher is a small  craft brewery located in Easton, PA that specializes in artisanal and unique beer styles.

“This is fantastic news for us!  This beer has moved into our flagship position in just the last year and an award of this stature is just icing on the cake.  Our staff and I are tuly psyched about this!”,  said Dan Weirback,  President of Weyerbacher.

World Beer Cup 2010 winners were selected by an international panel of 179 beer judges from 27 countries. An impressive field of 3,401 entries from 642 breweries in 44 countries made up the competition. More than 3,800 breweries in 100 countries were invited to compete.

Weyerbacher  conducts open house with free tours and samples every Saturday from Noon to 3 at the brewery in Easton.  For more information check www.weyerbacher.com.

The Visitor Center is Open Every Saturday 12 Noon to 3PM for Tours, Tastings & Sales

We will be debuting Juliet, Dopplesticke 8.5%, this week.  Come by for a try!

Juliet

Juliet, 8.5% ABV, Doppelsticke.

The German’s say it “dopple-shtick-uh”, so should you.  It is a Double Alt.

Alts have a long history in Germany and specifically in the town of Düsseldorf.  Not too cold and not too hot, Düsseldorf has the perfect climate for brewing this refreshingly crisp ale.  Alts fall in at around 4.7% and have a clean malty flavor with substantial hop presence.   Take that and doubled it and you get a beer that is both richly malty and pleasantly hoppy.  Due to cool fermentation and conditioning, the beer has the clean lager-like profile.

Merry Monks’ Ale Wins Bronze

This past weekend we were in Chicago for the Craft Brewer’s Conference.  This year was a World Beer Cup Year (held every two years).  More than 3000 beers from breweries and brewpubs worldwide were judged in 90 categories by judges from around the world.  We entered 7 beers and this time we got a win!  We picked up the bronze in the Belgian Style Tripel category for Merry Monks’ Ale out of 53 entries.  I have a link to a video that was shot as it was announced.  We got a little excited and I sort of forgot what I was doing so the video is a little shaky and it probably isn’t fit for small children.  Enjoy!!!
