Old Heathen

Rich, velvety and deliciously complex, Old Heathen (8.0% ABV) is a truly distinctive stout. We use seven types of malt and two varieties of hops to bring forth this big brew. Quite robust and roasty on the palate, Old Heathen Imperial Stout has a wonderfully fruity nose and a moderately dry finish. The taste is highly complex – perhaps you’ll even discern notes of espresso or chocolate.

Old Heathen Imperial Stout is our interpretation of a beer style that originated in the 18th century. Brewed in England and exported to Germany, Scandinavia and Russia, these beers became fashionable among the members of the Czar’s court. In order to survive long voyages they were brewed with high alcohol content to prevent spoilage.

Like most of our beers, Weyerbacher Old Heathen is a perfect accompaniment to foods. Try it with rich stews, oysters, caviar or roasted meats. Old Heathen is also a perfect companion to chocolate desserts

Old Heathen is available year-round.

THEE BEST IMPERIAL STOUT that Ive ever had. With testament to all the empty six pack cartons I have. I truly hope that my local bev. store continues to stock this, or I’m going to have to learn how to make this myself. Thankyou!!!

  2. Now that’s the stuff right there. Getting hard to find down here in Florida, though.

What an outstanding Imperial Stout! Ranks at the top of my list with another from Greenwich, UK. Keep up the great brewing and hope to visit and tour the brewery next time I’m back home.

  4. [...] Weyerbacher Old Heathen Imperial Stout is a really good beer. I am fond of imperial stouts – they’re delicious – but you can’t drink too many at a time because they’re quite rich. This one is smooth and fairly sweet, with a hint of fruity. There’s a bit of a bright bite to it, and a pleasing aftertaste. I recommend!   [...]

My local Total Wine store told me that this beer is being discontinued. Is that correct?

I found that I had packed away two bottles of this about 6-7 years ago. Unearthed wrapped in old band t-shirts this year after being in a tupperware container in a basement. About to open in 10-15 minutes…should be either really really good or really really bad LOL. Hoping for the better of the two options. Also have a raspberry stout that is going to be opened.

Love, love, love Old Heathen – one of my very favorite beers. It seems to have vanished from my local beer suppliers shelves, however, and I find that very disappointing. One of the sales people at Total Wine, Boca Raton, told me that Old Heathen wasn’t a very good seller. My response was that I always bought by the case when they had it in stock, and I was very unhappy to learn they no longer carry this beer.

      Hi Star,
I have let our Regional Sales Manager know and we are looking into this. Sorry about that and we’ll work as hard as possible to get it back on the shelf for you! Thanks for enjoying our brews!

If you ask the Store to order a Case for you, they will. Or at least any good store would.

Yes, most stores have the availability to order in special requests. You can always try that at a local store. Our wholesaler is MicroMan in Florida.

This is one of my favorites that Weyerbacher makes. Such a banquet of rich flavor! It’s truly a masterpiece. It’s also rather strong, so definitely something you relax with and drink slowly. I hope it remains a staple of Weyerbacher’s collection for many years to come. :-)
