Ahh, the sweet nectar of the gods. Turns out that Philadelphia has become the biggest and best beer-brewing town in the USA. More than two dozen independent breweries and brew pubs make their home somewhere in the Delaware Valley. And the stuff they churn out is world class. Our goal is to try them all between now and our public finale on Aug. 4 (stay tuned for more info on that). We’re going to offer each beer maker the chance to enter in three categories – light bodied (ales, pilseners, lagers and the like); full bodied (stouts, bocks, heavy Belgians) and seasonal/specialty beers (anything this side of bacon-flavored ale qualifies). Now, Ant, Glen and producer Jamie don’t claim to be professional beer tasters. We’re just three guys who like a hearty brew and have consumed enough over the years that we can tell quality from putrid. So, if you’re a snobby beer connoisseur, well, you may not like our picks. In fact, if you’re an average guy, you may disagree with our judgment. That’s fine – you’ll get your chance to vote at that Aug. 4 final, when all the top brews will be in house.
